Peter Sterios
There's a lot to thank Peter Sterios for -- especially if you use a MANDUKA yoga mat. Peter began as an award-winning architect and yoga teacher, but combined the two to create what many in the yoga field consider the best yoga mats. Peter launched MANDUKA yoga products in 1997 from a small garage behind his home in California.
Having stepped down as CEO and Chief Product Innovator, Peter returned to his love of both teaching and designing. As a yoga teacher, he leads teacher training and retreats around the world. Peter taught yoga for three years at the White House for Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity initiatives, and in 2018 he was invited to the Pentagon to discuss yoga therapuetics with the US Marine Corps.
This April and May (2019), as part of LEVITYoga, Peter is visiting New Zealand to run several workshops around the country. You can book a spot through the links below. This is an incredible chance to practice with Peter. Read on to learn more about Peter's morning and evening routines.
April 26, Evening Discussion “Everyday Insight - On and off the mat" at The Space Studio
April 27-28, 2-day Workshop at The Space Studio Wellington
April 30 - May 9, 10-day Immersion at Yin Yoga Napier (click on the month of April)
May 4-5, 2-day Workshop at Yin Yoga Napier

May 11-12, 2-day Workshop at Urban Ashram Ponsonby
Morning person, night owl or other? Morning person for sure...
Do you do anything before bedtime to make your morning routine easier? I lay my mat out on the floor right before bed. Its a gentle reminder that there is something more important than “almost” everything else for the next day.
Please describe your evening in 3 words. Eat, play, wuv (think movie “The Princess Bride”)
What does the last hour of your day look like? Usually a soak in hot water for 20 minutes, a cold shower, and then retire to bed with one of the four books I am reading concurrently.
Is there a trick for getting to bed on time? If there is, I haven’t found one. Especially if my 11 year old daughter wants to watch a couple of episodes of "Friends"
What's your favourite thing about the evenings? Dinner and connection with family.
What other habits are part of your routine (at other points in the day/weekend)? Habits? Brush my teeth at least twice a day, floss once a day, shower every day, hike at least twice a week, practice yoga 5+ times per week, avoid the news at least 6 days a week (7 lately with US news), acknowledge someone or something that I am grateful for every day of my life for the rest of my life.
Anything else you'd like to add? I make time for wonder and curiosity, and the feeling of awe towards simple and profound things, like the miracle of nature which New Zealand is rich with, and the miracle of our inner nature which the practice of yoga helps us awaken to.
A huge thank you, Peter. You’re welcome Sarah.
