Morning person, night owl or other?
Both! But really a night owl who was a forced morning person for years and now is STRUGGLING to be even slightly civil before noon. (Because I go to bed between midnight and 2am a bit too much.)
Do you do anything before bed to make your morning routine easier?
I always have my yoga gear ready for the next day. Always! Even if nothing else is done that’s my security for achieving at least one thing!
What's your first thought when the alarm goes off?
Are you f***king kidding me? And I don’t even set an alarm, that’s my response to my husband’s alarm.
What does the first hour of your day look like?
It looks a lot different from a few years ago. I start a lot more slowly now. I meditate, stretch, take all my meds and supplements, drink a lot of water and either head off to yoga or the gym or organise my day ahead.
You're a decaf drinker, right? When did you make the jump and what have you noticed?
I started drinking decaf (I know!) after I was strongly advised to following a few doctor visits to do with my insomnia. I was also heavily addicted being one of those people who if I hadn’t been caffeinated by 10am then I got crushing headaches. I really didn’t like being that dependent on something so I was ready to stop but as I genuinely love the smell, taste and ceremony of having coffee I went with the decaf. I am one of those sad people that still says I ‘need’ it… and I know baristas probably hate me!
What's the part that's most likely to get chopped when you're short on time?
Probably my meditation but I’m changing that up. I’m a work in progress…
What other habits are part of your routine (at other points in the day/weekend)?
I’m actually trying to set myself some firmer routines at the moment. It’s taken me a while to realise that I absolutely need to set myself some routines that work for me and what I’m trying to achieve, rather than dropping everything for other people’s routines. Of course, there are times when I have to fit in with others but I need a weekend to feel like a weekend rather than an extension of my week. There, I’ve said it! Has to happen now!
Anything else you'd like to add:
I love what I do and love drawing inspiration and reminders for self-care from people like you, with your thoughtful words and reminders. I’m finding social media a bit ‘noisy’ at the moment and am trying to find a space within it that works for me and my business without leaving me feeling anxious. It’s a tricky balance.
